Audiobook sales rise

According to new research, audiobook sales are predicted to grow 17 per cent annually until 2018 from 12 per cent a year between 2008 and 2013 as competitive pricing and the proliferation of smartphones drives their popularity.
Research firm IBISWorld said audiobook publishers sold $1.6 billion audiobooks during 2008 to 2013 and predicted that figure would keep growing.
The growth is also attributed to digital audio platforms that allow their sale and marketing, particularly Audible and iTunes.
I still hear the odd person being sniffy about the likes of audiobooks and, more particularly, ebooks (‘they are not proper books’, they say) but my view? Writing is for reading wherever it happens.
